When Manoj Sharma took his 9th and 10th exams, he barely managed to pass with a third division in both. Nevertheless, he chose to study mathematics in the 12th grade but only passed in the subject of Hindi. His performance in other subjects was poor, and this left him feeling disheartened. Yet, he continued his journey of perseverance, which you can read about in the complete story of his struggle in “12th Fail.”

Manoj Sharma’s Struggle : Each setback Manoj faced only fueled his determination to succeed. Despite the wishes of his family for him to become a clerk, Manoj refused to accept this path. When he wasn’t attending to his responsibilities in the village, he often read novels, earning the reputation of a student among the villagers. However, Manoj felt insulted by this label.

Childhood Friend’s Support During his struggle :  Manoj found support from his childhood friend, Rakesh, who helped enhance Manoj’s spirit and encouraged him to strive for greatness. Rakesh told Manoj that he could achieve big things in life but had to keep fighting relentlessly to fulfill his dreams.

Inspired by Rakesh, Manoj achieved a 70% score in the 12th exams. From there, he consistently ranked among the top students in college. His confidence grew, propelling him towards success.

Manoj Sharma’s Pursuit of IPS : Manoj became obsessed with clearing the UPSC exam and dedicated years to preparing in Gwalior and later in Delhi. He appeared for the UPSC exam three times but failed to secure success.

Undeterred, Manoj intensified his efforts, studying for hours on end, which affected his eyesight, requiring him to wear glasses. People close to him urged him to return home, claiming that the UPSC was not his path. However, Manoj’s passion for success only deepened, and he refused to return home without achieving his goal. Eventually, he realized his dreams by passing the exam.

Manoj Sharma’s incredible journey to success is detailed in the novel “12th Fail,” Today, his story motivates numerous students who are inspired by his unwavering determination to fulfill his dreams and achieve the position of Mumbai Commissioner.

Manoj Sharma’s UPSC Interview : Manoj recalled that during the interview, after passing the preliminary and mains exams on his fourth attempt following three failures, the selection committee questioned why they should select him when they had candidates from IIT and IIM. Manoj responded with simplicity, stating that he had reached this point after failing in his 12th exams, so there must be something special in him. His response touched the hearts of the selection committee members, leading to his selection. Manoj was subsequently selected for the IPS in the Maharashtra cadre.
